While few businesses can be called recession-proof, some local businesses continue to thrive in tough economic times. Julie Jablonowski, owner of Repeat Street, an upscale resale shop in Gurnee, said her business had a profitable year in 2008 despite the struggling economy, and the new year is off to a good start. “My business increased by about 20 percent in 2008,” she said.
