Q: I recently used a public restroom and noticed that the urinal had no flush valve. I quickly figured out that this must be a waterless urinal. How does it work, and how do you keep it from retaining odors? Also, can one be installed in a home? — Joe in Montana

7 September 2008 I used a public restroom the other day and, after washing up and finding that there were no paper towels, had one of my little science moments where I pose questions to myself. I do this to see if I really understand things. If water boils at 100??C, I thought, why do wet hands dry on their own in the open air at temperatures much lower than that?
